I have a horse Danny, he is about 23 years old. Quite a few years ago I rescued him from a man who was letting him starve, he was over 100 lbs. under weight and very neglected. He has been nursed back to health and is a wonderful fellow with a very mellow personality. He has arthritis in his hips and unable to be ridden, other than that he is healthy. However for the past two years I have been ill and am getting to the point where I cannot take care of him and I have a home I am going to have to sell. I have been looking for someplace I can place him where he can live out his days and be happy.  Contact Linda Eddy  ieddy143@msn.com

Last week we received an email from our Livestock Officer re: a pregnant mare and 3 year old gelding (he was not a stud after all) about an elderly gentlemen in Florence who could no longer care for these horses.  They would have been relinquished to the State and processed through the auction if a new home was not found for them.   Thankfully, a sanctuary in Oklahoma has stepped up and agreed to take them.   The cost of transport and Coggins test will be approximately $600.00.   Equine Voices has already pledged $200.00 to help get these horses to their new home.  If lots of us would send $10 or $15 dollars we could raise the money.  There is also a sense of urgency to accomplish the move as quickly as possible as the mare is due to foal in October and should be transported in a timely manner.

I live around the 56th and Sweetwater where there are many horse properties.   I would drive by and often walk by one of the properties that had a single horse in the yard.  All that was in the backyard was a tiny shed and one small 5 x 10 awning coming off of it.  It barely created any shade and the horse never seem to have any care.  I never owed a horse and did not and still do not have a horse property but we live across the street from horse properties and two of our friends and neighbors have horses.

So after months of what I felt was abuse I saw someone out in the backyard.  I went and got my friend who had the horses and she and I went to talk to this person.  I found out he was the owner of the horse but did not live there and came twice a day to feed the horse.  He said the horse was a old cutting horse and was lame.  I convinced him to let me buy the horse for $500 and my friend agreed to board the horse for
$215 plus food a month.  Well we had the vet come out and also the farrier and  his hooves were a mess.  So after many trips from the farrier, the horse who we renamed Lucky, was walking better. My friend also slowly release him  to be with the other horse and now he is very happy at his new home and loves being around other horse. Now close to a year later he is in great shape for his age.

But unfortunately, I lost my previous jobs and while I look for new sources of income,  I have very little money just to support my  family
so I cannot afford to pay the board and my friend does not seem interested in just keeping the horse since she was the one who gave me your contact info.

I hate to make Lucky be uprooted again but I cannot support him any more. and was hoping you could take him in to Luv Shack.  I have been told he cannot be ridden again but you never know.  I can tell you he is a very loving horse and will let you give him a big hug and he was never fearful of me or anyone new.   It seemed like he was appreciative of what I did for him so he has always been very affectionate to me.

My contact information is 480-481-8024.

Thank you

Gary Nice
